What it is used for: Scabies.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is is used to treat infestations of scabies and crab lice on the body .

How it works: The principal physiological action in insects (lice) exposed to permethrin is induction of electrochemical abnormalities across the membranes of excitable cells, leading to sensory hyperexcitability, inco-ordination and prostration. It is assumed that the mode of action against arachnids (mites) is similar.

Active ingredient: Permethrin.

Reported side effects: Itching (pruritus), reddening of the skin or unusual sensations on the skin (paraesthesias) such as tingling, pricking, skin burning sensation as well as dry skin are common , skin lesions (excoriations), inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis) and reduced skin pigmentation .

Known drug interactions: Corticosteroids (steroids)

Adults & Children : Scabies : Apply once to whole body excluding head and face. Ensure that the skin is clean , dry and cool prior to treatment . Wash out after 8-24hr. A sec application may be given if necessary. Crab lice : Apply once weekly for 2 doses, apply 5% cream over whole body, allow to dry naturally and wash off after 12 hrs or after leaving on overnight. OR As directed by your physician.
