What it is used for: Cholesterol control.
Indications as listed by the manufacturer: As an adjunct to diet amd maximally tolerated statin therapy for the treatment of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia or established artherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional lowering of LDL-C.
How it works: It works by blocking an enzyme (enzyme adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase) that is required to make ?bad? cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) in the liver, which results in lower levels of bad cholesterol.
Active ingredient: Bempedoic acid.
Reported side effects: Upper respiratory tract infection , muscle spasms , hyperuricaemia , back pain , abdominal pain or discomfort , bronchitis , pain in extremity , anaemia and elevated liver enzymes .
Known drug interactions: Simvastatin , pravastatin (avoid)
