What it is used for: Malaria.

How it works: Both components Artemether/ Lumefantrine have their own action site in the malarial parasite. The presence of the endoperoxide bridge in Artemether (generating single oxygen and free radicals, those are very cytotoxic to the plasmodia) appears to be essential for antimalarial activity.
Active ingredient: Artemether , Lumefantrine.
Reported side effects: Very Common: Palpitations, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, anorexia, vomiting, nausea, arthralgia, mylagia, asthenia, fatigue, sleep disorders. Common: Amnesia, paraesthesia, diarrhea, pruritus, rash, cough, electrocardiogram QT prolongation, gait disturbances, insomia. Uncommon: Liver function test increased, clonus, hypoesthesia, ataxia, somnolence.
Known drug interactions: CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. erythromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, cimetidine, HIV protease inhibitors, etc.) , CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g. flecainide, metoprolol, imipramine, amitryptyline, clomipramine, etc.) , Mefloquine.
5-15kg B.W : Total course of 80mg (Artemether) & 480mg (Lumefantrine): 20mg & 120mg initially followed by 20mg & 120mg after 8hr , after 24hr and after 48hr of the 1st dose. 5-15kg B.W : Total course of 160mg (Artemether) & 960mg (Lumefantrine): 40mg & 240mg as a single dose initially followed by 40mg & 240mg after 8hr , after 24hr and after 48hr of the 1st dose. 25-35kg B.W : 240mg & 1440mg : 60mg & 360mg as a single dose initially followed by 60mg & 360mg after 8hr , after 24hr and after 48hr of the 1st dose . OR As directed by your physician .
