Ventolin Expectorant 120ml

What it is used for: Asthma.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: Salbutamol are indicated for the relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma of all types, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Guaiphenesin is an expectorant.

How it works: Salbutamol is a selective beta2 adrenoceptor agonist. At therapeutic doses it acts on the beta2 adrenoceptors of bronchial muscle providing short acting (4 to 6 hour) bronchodilation in reversible airways obstruction. Guaifenesin is used to treat coughs and congestion caused by the common cold, bronchitis, and other breathing illnesses.

Active ingredient: Guaiphenesin , Salbutamol.

Reported side effects: Immune system disorders - Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, hypotension and collapse. Metabolism and nutrition disorders - Rare: Hypokalaemia. Potentially serious hypokalaemia may result from beta2 agonist therapy. Nervous system disorders - Very common: Tremor. Common: Headache. Very rare: Hyperactivity. Cardiac disorders - Common: Tachycardia, palpitations. Rare: Cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and extrasystoles. Vascular disorders- Rare: Peripheral vasodilatation. Musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders - Common: Muscle cramps. Very rare: Feeling of muscle tension.

Known drug interactions: It may interact with Propranolol , monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) , digoxin , theophylline or aminophylline) , prednisolone , (such as frusemide) , such as insulin, metformin or glibenclamide .

Adults and Children >12 years: 10-20 ml ; 6-12 years: 10 ml ; 2-6 years: 5-10 ml . All doses should be taken 2-3 times daily or as directed by your physician.
