Ticozid 200mg Injection

What it is used for: Bacterial Infection.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is used in adults and children (including newborn babies) to treat bacterial infections of:- The skin and underneath the skin - sometimes called ‘soft tissue’- The bones and joints- The lung- The urinary tract- The heart - sometimes called ‘endocarditis’- The abdominal wall - peritonitis- The blood, when caused by any of the conditions listed above.

How it works: Teicoplanin inhibits the growth of susceptible organisms by interfering with cell-wall biosynthesis at a site different from that affected by beta-lactams. Peptidoglycan synthesis is blocked by specific binding to D-alanyl-D-alanine residues.

Active ingredient: Teicoplanin.

Reported side effects: Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) : • Rash, erythema, pruritus • Pain • FeverUncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) : • decrease in platelet count. • raised blood levels of liver enzymes • raised in blood levels of creatinine (tomonitor your kidney) • hearing loss, ringing in the ears or a feeling that you, or things around you are moving • feeling or being sick (vomiting), diarrhoea • feeling dizzy or headacheRare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) : • infection (abscess). Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data) : • problems where the injection was given - such as reddening of the skin, pain or swelling

Known drug interactions: Aminoglycosides, colistin, amphotericin B, ciclosporin, cisplatin, furosemide, and ethacrynic acid .

Adults : Moderate infections : 400mg IV or IM as a single dose on first day , then 200mg IV or IM daily. Severe infections : 400mg IV every 12hr for three doses , then 400mg IV or IM daily. Reduce dose from fourth day in rennal insufiiciency. Children : Neonates : 16mg/kg body weight as a single dose by IV infusion over 30min on first day , then 8mg/kg body weight as single daily dose ; over 2 mnth : moderate infections, 10mg/kg body weight by IV injection every 12hr for first three doses , then 6mg/kg by IV or IM injection as a single dose daily. Severe infections, 10mg/kg by IV or IM injection as a single dose daily. Prophylaxis in orthopaedic surgery : Adults : 400mg IV as a single dose at induction of anesthesia. Always consult with your doctor or pharmacist for dose adjustments.
