Diclofenac has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties.The mechanism of action of diclofenac , like that of other NSAIDs, is not completely understood but involves inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2).Diclofenac is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis in vitro. Diclofenac concentrations reached during therapy have produced in vivo effects. Prostaglandins sensitize afferent nerves and potentiate the action of bradykinin in inducing pain in animal models. Prostaglandins are mediators of inflammation. Because diclofenac is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, its mode of action may be due to a decrease of prostaglandins in peripheral tissues.
It is used to treat pain and inflammation.
- Pain Relief
Adults : Pain - 50mg every 8hr or 100mg 1st dose,then 50mg every 8hr. Max: 150mg/day (200mg/day on 1st day). Osteoarthritis : 50mg every 8 hour or every 6 hr. Max:225mg/day. Dysmenorrhoea: 50mg every 8 hr or 100mg 1st dose, then 50mg every 8hr. Max: 150mg/day (200mg/day on 1st day). Children : Rheumatic disease and musculoskeletal disorders : 14-18yr, 75-100mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Fever in ear, nose or throat infection : 9-18yr and body weight over 35kg, upto 2mg/kg (max 100mg) daily in divided doses. Always consult ypur doctor or pharmacist for dose adjustments.
Diclofenac potassium
- It is generally important to take the lowest dose of Diclofenac potassium that relieves your pain and/or swelling and for the shortest time possible in order to keep your risk for cardiovascular side effects as small as possible.
- If, at any time while taking Diclofenac potassium you experience any signs or symptoms of problems with your heart or blood vessels such as chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, or slurring of speech, contact your doctor immediately.
- Diclofenac potassium may reduce the symptoms of an infection (e.g. headache, high temperature) and may therefore make the infection more difficult to detect and to treat adequately. If you feel unwell and need to see a doctor, remember to mention that you are taking diclofenac potassium.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
