What it is used for: Schizophrenia.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: Lumateperone is indicated for the treatment of : Schizophrenia in adults . Depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder (bipolar depression) in adults, as monotherapy and as adjunctive therapy with lithium or valproate.

How it works: The mechanism of action of Lumateperone in the treatment of schizophrenia and depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder is unknown. However, the efficacy of Lumateperone could be mediated through a combination of antagonist activity at central serotonin 5-HT2A receptors and postsynaptic antagonist activity at central dopamine D2 receptors.

Active ingredient: Lumateperone.

Reported side effects: Increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, cerebrovascular adverse reactions (including stroke) in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, metabolic changes, leukopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, falls, seizures, potential for cognitive, motor impairment, body temperature dysregulation, dysphagia, somnolence/sedation, dry mouth, dizziness and nausea.

Known drug interactions: CYP3A4 Inducers : Concomitant use of Lumateperone with CYP3A4 inducers decreases the exposure of Lumateperone. Avoid concomitant use of Lumateperone with CYP3A4 inducers. Moderate or Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors : Concomitant use of Lumateperone with moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors increases Lumateperone exposure, which may increase the risk of adverse reactions. Reduce Lumateperone dose when used concomitantly with moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
