What it is used for: Anaemia.
Indications as listed by the manufacturer: Polysaccharide iron complex is indicated for Prevention and treatment of all kinds of iron deficiencies particularly iron deficiency anemia in pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents and adults .
How it works: Iron is an essential component in the formation of hemoglobin. Iron deficiency generally develops slowly and is not clinically apparent until anemia is present as a severe stage of iron deficiency.
Active ingredient: Polysaccharide Iron Complex.
Reported side effects: Some people may experience gastrointestinal side effects .
Known drug interactions: Until now, interactions have not been observed. Interactions may occur with these drugs especially chloramphenicol, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, cimetidine, quinolone antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin). Avoid taking iron concomitantly with antacids or tetracycline antibiotics. Wait at least 2 hrs. between taking iron and antacid or tetracycline .

Cap/Tab/Syp : Adults : 1 cap/tab daily or 10 ml syp daily . Children : Infants upto 1 yr , 1.25-2.5ml daily ; 1-12 yr , 2.5-5 ml daily ; above 12 yr , same as adult. Or As directed by your physician.
Active ingredient: Polysaccharide Iron Complex. Labelled strength: 150mg.
- Polysaccharide iron complex is contraindicated in: • Hemosiderosis • Hemochromatosis • Known hypersensitivity to any of the components of this product
- Patients should not exceed the recommended dosage unless directed by physician.
- Patients should be informed that iron therapy can cause black or dark stools .
- There is concern that a diet that is high in iron might increase the risk of heart disease in women with type 2 diabetes, although this has not been proven. If you have diabetes, discuss your iron intake with your healthcare provider.
- The type of anemia and underlying cause or causes should be determined before starting therapy with polysaccharide iron complex. Since the anemia may be a result of a systemic disturbance e.g. recurrentblood loss, the underlying cause(s) should be corrected.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
