Diabetes Care

Test accurately, track honestly, and keep your supplies stocked.

Managing type 2 diabetes well comes down to consistency rather than intensity: taking medicines at the same times, testing when your doctor asked you to, and recording the numbers so the pattern is visible at your next appointment.

Wash and dry your hands before a fingerstick — sugar residue on skin is a common cause of a falsely high reading. Use the side of the fingertip rather than the pad, and rotate fingers.

When to see a doctor

Contact your doctor for repeated readings above or below your target range, unexplained weight loss, a foot wound that is not healing, or any change in vision. Never stop or adjust a diabetes medicine on your own.
