What it is used for: Diabetes.
Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is used along with diet and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes to help control their blood sugar levels.
How it works: Dapagliflozin removes excess sugar from the body through the urine. Metformin helps your body respond better to the insulin it makes naturally. It helps to lower the amount of sugar made by the liver and lower the amount of sugar moved from the gut into the blood.
Active ingredient: Dapagliflozin , Metformin HCl.
Reported side effects: Difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, confusion, feeling very thirsty, feeling unusual tiredness, a sweet smell to the breath, a sweet or metallic taste in the mouth or a different odour to urine or sweat , dizziness, fainting, lightheadedness; may occur when you go from lying to sitting to standing up , shaking, sweating, rapid heartbeat, change in vision, hunger, headache and change in mood feeling very weak, tired or uncomfortable , unusual muscle pain , trouble breathing , unusual or unexpected stomach discomfort , feeling cold feeling dizzy or lightheaded , unusual fatigue and drowsiness , suddenly develop aslow or irregular heartbeat.
Known drug interactions: Nifedipine , Cationic drugs (e.g. amiloride, digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, quinine, ranitidine, triamterene, trimethoprim and vancomycin) , Certain “blood thinners” (phenprocoumon or other Vitamin K anticoagulant , furosemide, Corticosteroids , Phenothiazines , Thyroid products , Estrogens or estrogens plus progestogen , Phenytoin , Nicotinic Acid , Sympathomimetics , Calcium channel blocking drugs , Isoniazid, Beta-2-agonists , ACE inhibitor drugs
Adults : On the basis of current metformin dose , 1 tab twice daily with food. Combination therapy : Consider lower dose of insulin or sulfonyl ureas. Children : Not Recommended. OR As directed by your physician.
