How it works: Esomeprazole works by binding irreversibly to the H+/K+ ATPase in the proton pump. Because the proton pump is the final pathway for secretion of hydrochloric acid by the parietal cells in the stomach, its inhibition dramatically decreases the secretion of hydrochloric acid into the stomach and alters gastric pH .
Active ingredient: Esomeprazole.
Reported side effects: Headache , GI upset , Skin reactions , Dry mouth. Rarely angioedema . Rarely angiooedema , anaphylaxis , fundic gland polyps.
Known drug interactions: Phenytoin , warfarin , clopidogrel , ketoconazole , itraconazole , voriconazole , diazepam , citalopram , imipramine , clomipramine , CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers , tacrolimus , digoxin , erlitinib , methotraxate

Adults : 40mg once daily given as IV inj over a period of atleast 3 min or as IV inf over a period of 10-30mins. Children : By IV injection or by IV infusion . GERD in the presence of erosive reflux oesophagitis : 1-12 yr , body weight under 20kg , 10mg once daily ; body weight over 20 kg , 10-20mg once daily ; 12-18 yr , 40mg obce daily . GERD in the absence of erosive reflux oesophagitis : 1-12yr, 10mg once daily ; 12-18yr , 20mg once daily . OR As directed by your physician.
Active ingredient: Esomeprazole. Labelled strength: 40mg.
- It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Hypersensitivity reactions e.g. angioedema and anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, acute interstitial nephritis and urticaria have been reported with esomeprazole use.
- Hypomagnesemia has been reported rarely with prolonged treatment with PPIs.
- Long-term and multiple daily dose PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist or spine.
- Avoid concomitant use of Esomeprazole with clopidogrel.
- Daily long-term use (e.g. longer than 3 years) may lead to malabsorption or a deficiency of cyanocobalamin.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
