What it is used for: Migraine.
Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is used to treat migraine headache.
How it works: Migraine symptoms may be caused by swollen blood vessels in the head. It is thought to reduce the widening of these blood vessels. This helps to take away the headache and other symptoms of a migraine attack, such as feeling of being sick (nausea or vomiting) and being sensitive to light and sound.
Active ingredient: Zolmitriptan.
Reported side effects: Myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, and prinzmetal’s angina , arrhythmias , chest, throat, neck, and/or jaw pain/tightness/pressure , cerebrovascular events , other vasospasm reactions , medication overuse headache , serotonin syndrome , increase in blood pressure , hypersensitivity reactions , seizures.
Known drug interactions: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) • serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) • tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Adults : Initially 2.5mg as soon as possible after the onset of attack. If symptoms persists or return , a repeat dose may be given at an interval of at least 2 hr. If the response is inadequate , increase to 5mg doses for subsequent attacks. Recurrent attacks, max 10mg in 24hr. Children : Not recommended or as directed by your physician.
Active ingredient: Zolmitriptan. Labelled strength: 2.5mg.
- Do not take • If you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. • If you have high blood pressure. • If you have ever had heart problems, including a heart attack, angina (chest pain caused by exercise or effort), Prinzmetal’s angina (chest pain which happens at rest) or have experienced heart related symptoms such as shortness of breath or pressure over the chest. • If you have had a stroke or short-lasting symptoms similar to stroke (transient ischaemic attack or TIA).
- Sensations of tightness, pain, pressure, and heaviness in the precordium, throat, neck, and jaw commonly occur after treatment with zolmitriptan tablets and are usually non-cardiac in origin. However, perform a cardiac evaluation if these patients are at high cardiac risk. Use is contraindicated in patients with CAD and those with Prinzmetal’s variant angina.
- It can cause dizziness, weakness, or drowsiness. If you have these symptoms, do not drive a car, use machinery, or do anything where you need to be alert .
- Significant elevation in blood pressure, including hypertensive crisis with acute impairment of organ systems, has been reported on rare occasions in patients treated with 5-HT1 agonists, including patients without a history of hypertension. Monitor blood pressure in patients treated with zolmitriptan. Zolmitriptan tablets are contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension.
- Life-threatening disturbances of cardiac rhythm, including ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation leading to death, have been reported within a few hours following the administration of 5-HT1 agonists. Discontinue tablets if these disturbances occur.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
