What it is used for: Fungal Infection.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is used for infections caused by fungi or yeasts such as vaginal infections, dermatological infections, onychomycosis etc.

How it works: Itraconazole is used to treat yeast infections of the mouth and throat or of the esophagus (tube that connects the throat to the stomach). Itraconazole is in a class of antifungals called triazoles. It works by slowing the growth of fungi that cause infection.

Active ingredient: Itraconazole.

Reported side effects: Granulocytopenia, Thrombocytopenia , Hyperglycemia, Hyperkalemia, Hypokalemia, Hypomagnesemia , Confusional state , Neuropathy peripheral, Dizziness, Somnolence , Cardiac failure, Left ventricular failure, Tachycardia , : Hypertension, Hypotension , Gastrointestinal disorder , Hepatic failure, Hepatitis, Jaundice , Rash erythematous, Hyperhidrosis , Myalgia, Arthralgia , : Generalized edema, Face edema, Chest pain, Pyrexia, Pain, Fatigue, Chills .

Known drug interactions: Itraconazole : Rifampicin , cyclosporin , H2 antagonists , antacids , tamsulosin , antiarrhythmics , digoxin , cilosrazole , repaglinide , saxagliptin , midazolam , nadolol , tacrolimus , salmeterol , reboxetine , statins , tolvaptan , meloxicam , sirolimus , domperidone , ivabradine, ergot alkaloids.

Adults : 200mg once daily. Increase to 100mg if no improvement. Max : 400mg/day. Children : Not recommended . Consult your doctor or pharmacist for dose adjustment.
