What it is used for: Eye Infection / Ear Infection.
Indications as listed by the manufacturer: For Eye : It is indicated for blepharitis and infected eczema of the eyelid; allergic, infective and rosacea conjunctivitis; rosacea keratitis; scleritis and episcleritis;iridocyclitis and other inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye. For Ear: It is indicated for the treatment of otitis externa (acute and chronic) and other inflammatory and seborrheic conditions of the external ear.
How it works: Framycetin Sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a spectrum of activity similar to that of neomycin, this includes Staph. aureus and most clinically significant gram negative organisms. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid and has the general properties as other corticosteroids.
Active ingredient: Dexamethasone , Framycetin.
Reported side effects: Your eyes have problems focussing or develop a blind spot. You may have increased pressure in the eye ; You have difficulty seeing at night or notice that your eyesight is cloudy and fuzzy, or you see halos around lights. These could be signs of cataracts. This may occur after using the medicine for a long time ; You experience blurred vision .

Eye : One or two drops in the affected eye six times a day or more if advised by your doctor . Ear(s) : Two or three drops in the ear three or four times a day . OR As directed by your physician.
Active ingredient: Dexamethasone , Framycetin.
- Do not use : If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to framycetin sulphate, dexamethasone ,or any of the other ingredients of this medicine .
- Visual disturbance may be reported with systemic and topical corticosteroid use. If a patient presents with symptoms such as blurred vision or other visual disturbances, the patient should be considered for referral to an ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma or rare diseases such as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) which have been reported after use of systemic and topical corticosteroids.
- Treatment with corticosteroid/antibiotic combinations should not be continued for more than 7 days in the absence of any clinical improvement, since prolonged use may lead to occult extension of infections due to the masking effect of the steroid. Prolonged use may also lead to skin sensitisation and the emergence of resistant organisms.
- Treatment with corticosteroid preparations should not be repeated or prolonged without regular review to exclude raised intraocular, pressure, cataract formation or unsuspected infections.
- Topical corticosteroids should never be given for an undiagnosed red eye as inappropriate use is potentially blinding.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
