What it is used for: Anti-Spasmodic.

Indications as listed by the manufacturer: It is used in : Spasm associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) , Spasm associated with diarrhoea and dysentery , Renal colic , Biliary colic , Dysmenorrhoea , Delayed labour .

How it works: An antispasmodic which acts on the smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal & urogenital pathways and relieves pain associated with spasm.

Active ingredient: Phloroglucinol , Trimethylphloroglucinol.

Reported side effects: Constipation , transient bradycardia ( followed by tachycardia , palpitation and arrhythmias ) , reduced bronchial secretions , urinary urgency and retention , dilatation of the pupils with loss of accomodation , photophobia , dry mouth , flushing and dryness of the skin . Side-effects that occur occasionally include confusion ( particularly in the elderly) , nausea , vomiting and giddiness . Very rarely , angle-closure galucoma may occur .

Known drug interactions: Amantadine , atenolol , digoxin , phenothiazines , tricyclic antidepressants .
